Widex has been present in the Australian market for many years, but in 1997 Widex Australia Pty Ltd became a fully owned subsidiary of Widex A/S in Denmark.
“It is not many years ago that I could count my employees on both hands”, says Mr. Geoff Dickson, Managing Director of Widex Australia, “but since we launched the first fully digital hearing aid in Australia and our investment in customer service, our company is going from strength to strength”.
Widex Australia now employs about 40 people, which is the reason why the company has relocated from Lt. Collins St. to Collingwood in Melbourne. “We can now facilitate seminars and workshops for a large group of hearing aid dispensers. Equally important to our hearing aid dispensers and their clients is our investment in new shell making and repair laboratories as well as a customer service centre. We feel that we made a large commitment to our client base and are ready to grow our organisation”.
Sponsor of the ACAud congress | Widex' commitment to the Australian market could also been seen at the congress of ACAud held in Sydney in March 2003, where Widex Australia was a major sponsor. The Congress was hailed as a great success by 350 audiologists and hearing aid dispensers attending the congress.
Among the speakers was the well known Dr. Michael Valente from the Washington University School of Medicine in the US, who spoke on the utilisation of microphone and digital signal processing technology to improve the understanding of speech in noise.
Dr. Valente emphasised that microphone technology has been proven to improve speech understanding in noise and made direct reference to one of the leading edge products on the market, Senso Diva from Widex.
