Operating in-the-ear hearing aids

Here you can read about how to operate an in-the-ear hearing aid.

Battery compartment and on/off switch

The position of the battery compartment varies somewhat from one model to another.

Care must be taken when inserting the battery. If it is incorrectly placed, the battery compartment cover can be difficult to close.

On/off function

The on/off function varies from one model to another.

The on/off switch built into the battery compartment cover.

This applies to models with vertically positioned batteries; When the battery compartment cover is closed, the hearing aid is turned on. When the cover is ajar and you can feel a click, the hearing aid is turned off.

The on/off switch built into the volume control.

When the volume wheel is turned all the way down until a click is felt, the hearing aid is turned off.

Volume control

The volume is adjusted in different ways on in-the-ear models.

Volume control as a small flat wheel. By means of a fingertip, the wheel can be turned right to raise the volume or left to lower the volume.

Volume control as a small, vertically placed wheel. The wheel is adjusted up or down with a fingernail or fingertip.

Volume control as a small spring-loaded lever. The lever can be moved up or down.
Remote control. The volume of ITE models with remote control can be adjusted both on the remote and on the hearing aid.

Fully automatic hearing aids are not always provided with a manual volume control.

M-T switch

If the hearing aid is provided with a telecoil, there are two or three settings:

Microphone - Telecoil

Microphone – Microphone/Telecoil - Telecoil

The setting is chosen by pressing the battery cover for a couple of seconds. On hearing aids with remote control, you will find the telecoil function on the remote control.
